St Philip’s Cathedral

Hosted an installation of Noah’s Ark during Interfaith Week – with displays on Noah’s Ark within Judaism, Christianity and Islam they invited members of all faiths into the Cathedral.  Workshops were held throughout the week with local schools.  On the Thursday Bishop David Urqhart joined the voices of Christian Aids mass visual trespass sending messages to our government ahead of the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference.

The Journey, Metropolitan Community Church

In addition to transforming a railway arch space with recycled materials, they have hosted the first regional gathering for Eco Congregation Churches in the West Midlands.  A chance to network, receive support and encouragement and receive encouragement in their eco award applications.  They have an Eco Congregation Award for the work they have done.

Birmingham Buddhist Centre

Hosted a community screening of the Age of Stupid, followed by short talks on a Buddhist perspective and from Friends of the Earth Birmingham and a discussion on what we can achieve by working together.

Solihull Faith Forum

SFF’s Eco Group have been very busy organising a series of screenings of the Age of Stupid across Solihull and Dorridge.  In addition a questionnaire of local places of worship highlighted the fantastic work – particularly Churches and their efforts in community recycling.  In Dec 09 they showed their commitment to political action by heading down the Wave in London.  In July 2010 they successfully organised a brilliant Go Gree Fair in the heart of Solihull where they engaged members of the public with stalls, activities for children and information packs.

Wylde Green United Reform Church

Steve Lyne, Ambassador for Faith and Climate Change  – has begun a gardening group in Wylde Green, distributed Home Energy Checks to members of his congregation and raised money to insulate a room within the Church. Last year they were awarded the Eco Congregation Award – Click here for more details.

Selly Oak Methodist Church

Selly Oak Methodists have been awarded 2 eco congregation awards for their work and commitment – insulating pipes, creating a community recycling collection service at the church, holding discussion groups and services and trying car sharing schemes.

Midlands Islamic Network for the Environment

Hosts annual organic Iftar to pray, share information and break the fast with a variety of organic, fair trade and seasonal produce.  This year participants shared information on a Vegan diet, Birmingham friends of the earth meat free mondays and the forthcoming Islam Awareness Week.

St Bede’s Anglican Church

Established a green group, held a prayer day based around the environment, worked with the green group at the local school and assessed the efficiency of their building.  They were recently awarded an Eco Congregation Award.  For more information on the church, click here

All Saints Church, Kings Heath

Screening Age of Stupid 6 times in one day was not for All Saints, they followed this by taking part in the Christian Ecology Link day of prayer.  Members of their congregation have attended training in Energy Audits and we await to hear what they do next!  They have been awarded an Eco Congregation Award for their work and commitment which was presented by Salma Yaqoob – Councillor for Sparkbrook.

The Saffron Centre at Bhat Singh Sabha

Have been working to ensure their conference centre is energy efficient whilst maintaining high standards.  They have tried to create natural light within the space they have, In their kitchens they separate their oil and water to reduce waste and they are concerned by the traffic outside.  For the past few years they have been working to build up support for wind turbines.  Members of the Saffron Centre have attended Faith and Climate Change Training workshop in Energy Audits.
