London Futures Climate Change Exhibition

A new exhibition shows London landmarks in an environment transformed by climate change. 14 familiar views of the capital have been digitally transformed by illustrators Robert Graves and Didier Madoc-Jones. The exhibition runs from October – March 2011 at the Museum of London. These images can be viewed on the guardian website here.

Having viewed the images myself, they bring up some opposing thoughts. Whilst very well made and initially striking, for me they also present a few issues. I think the images are powerful in that they show areas that people know well, potentially making the viewer sit up and take notice. However, within the 14 pictures, they show some of the same land marks in different situations. For me this slightly weakens the argument. Wouldn’t it have been better to pick a projected likely version of the future and stick with it throughout the entire set? By using different scenarios, I believe it slightly effects the realism – possibly turning people off? Perhaps they wont be taken as seriously. They remain well worth a look. Let us know what you think!
