Places of Worship, learning from each other!

14/07/2009

Last Saturday, 11th July – representatives from places of worship gathered at the Warehouse for some training in Energy Efficiency and Energy Audits.

Mark Harding from Flowtherm delivered the informative training and by the end of the day we had all signed up to help each other and share from one another’s experiences,

David Edden and Duncan Miller from Selly Oak Methodists shared their experiences of lagging service pipes that were running through a corridor to heat 4 rooms.  They lowered the temperature of the corridor considerably.

Steve Lyne from Wylde Green URC told us that the Church had just finished insulating one room which the Church now uses for all its business.  They had also saved £90 a year by placing plastic bottles in the toilets to reduce the water flushed!

As a result of the training, we are asking all those places of worship willing to share their experiences to let us know! and we will share it on this website.  The next training will be on 26th August, for more details please contact me to book your place.  More details will appear soon!

We also spoke about the Theology of the Environment and are going to collect a series of articles from participants to publish.  We will be keeping an eye out on the Alliance of Religions and Conservation who are calling on 7 year plans from Faiths on climate change.

We agreed out of the training to undertake the following work over the next year…

– Collecting monthly meter readings which will be turned into graphs and charts to display at your place of worship

– Info on activities to share around the group

– Info on local suppliers that others have worked with

– a visit to the Northfield Eco Centre

– Providing a library of gadgets and resources to hire out.

Thanks to everyone who came.  Don’t forget – 26th August for further training in Energy Efficiency.
